Indium, like many other technology metals, is extracted only to a limited extent, but is recycled to an even lesser extent. A spin-off of the TU Bergakademie Freiberg, RMF Tech GmbH, has now developed a process that should make this possible. At the project pitch competition of swb Generation AG & Co. KG, the start-up impressed with its technology metal extraction process and business model. RMF Tech beat eight other start-ups in the Audience Award.

The start-up extracts indium from residues and residues of smelting and prepares them for the industry in commercial quality. With this procedure, the company, which was founded in 2019, can close the raw materials cycle and make an important contribution to the circular economy in Europe.
