Very few gamers are aware of how innovations through strategic resources affect their gaming experience. The latest example of the relevance of gallium for the console market is provided by the coveted and rare Playstation 5. Two years, explains Sony Engineering Vice President Yasuhiro Ootori in his Presentation of the PS5 on YouTube, Sony has been looking for a way to cool the processors of the new PS5 better than previous models. The solution: liquid, gallium-containing metal. The liquid metal replaces the conventional thermal compound and prevents overheating.

Gallium has a very low melting point. Even with a low heat effect, it passes into the liquid state. As a metal, it is distributed well and evenly and does not allow any gaps to be created by air bubbles, so that the entire surface can be optimally used as a conductive surface. Coupled with the high thermal conductivity of gallium, the heat transfer in the console could thus be increased and the PS5 made noticeably quieter and more powerful. In the heat test by YouTuber TronicsFix (German), the PS5 with the liquid metal layer remained operational much longer. The research seems to have paid off.
